I decided that I needed to incorporate a greater variety of images in this project than mere myspace-esque head shots. If I’m going to deconstruct beauty, I must acknowledge that the body itself plays a pivotal part in shaping how women perceive themselves. I also want to make a cross-cultural image-based zine about body image and beauty. As this project addresses my intrinsic issues, the zine will attack the extrinsic angle. A critical analysis will help to elucidate the subtle ways in which culture shapes expectations about women’s bodies. Hopefully, combining the intrinsic analysis of myself and the extrinsic cross-cultural examinations will provoke deeper changes in my own ways of seeing.
